Sugar Free Hot Chocolate -

Rich, sweet hot chocolate. Isn’t it the best?  I usually steer clear of regular hot chocolate simply because of the amount of sugar it contains.  Its like drinking a chocolate bar!  So I played around and figured out how to make it taste great, and use one of my favorite no-cal sweeteners….stevia!  I should also mention, this was a hit with my 4-year old too!

Sugar-Free, Low Calorie Hot Chocolate. Makes 1 serving
Yield: 1 serving
  • 1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 20 drops liquid stevia (I used NuNaturals vanilla stevia)
  • 1 Tbsp unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • *Optional* 3 Tbsp Cool-Whip Light from aerosol can (add 20 cals, 1.5 g fat, 3 mg sodium, 2 g carbs, 1 g sugar)
  • *Optional* 4 Tbsp light whipped cream from aerosol can (add 30 cals, 1.5 g fat, 10mg sodium, 3 g carbs, 2 g sugar)
  1. In a small bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, liquid stevia and almond milk until it forms into a paste. I use a spoon or fork. It will take a couple minutes to come together.
  2. Spoon chocolate mixture into a mug, and pour over boiling water and stir.
  3. Lastly, add whipped cream if desired.

I do almost the same thing, except use 1/2 c steamed skim milk and powdered Nustevia.  It works great too!

This is my absolute favourite way to drink hot chocolate – especially now that NuNaturals came out with its chocolate liquid stevia! I haven’t tried combining water and almond milk, I’ve always just used all milk – so I’ll give that a try!
